Babelsberg, 5 December 2008
Dear [First name] [Family name],
Despite some early snow falling recently, preparations for INSIGHT OUT 2009 are hotting up. I am really excited about the programme that we will be offering next year.
But before we can talk about the good things, there is one piece of sad news: Long-standing and wonderful team member Jutta Breuer has left HFF. She is now working for the Erich-Pommer-Institute, a new and exciting role for which we wish her all the very best.
Thankfully we have been able to find equally wonderful and competent support for the team, so there are a couple of new faces that I have the pleasure of introducing in this newsletter. So read on for some updates on what has been happening in Babelsberg...
Wishing you a warm and cosy December,
Jennifer Hoffmann.
Save the Date: INSIGHT OUT / HFF Academy 2009
23 – 27 March 2009
We are currently putting together the programme for INSIGHT OUT 2009 and have some exciting subjects and speakers in store for you. Stereo 3D and digital workflows will be the focus topics of the 2009 edition. The programme will cover the end2end process of digital production methods for digital cinema and HDTV – from preproduction to distribution. Lectures, case studies and hands-on workshops will be included and you can take part in the full 5-day programme or join for only 3 days.
Check out our website for an overview of the programme. The names of some of our high-profile and experienced speakers will be revealed in our next newsletter. For now, we would like to encourage you to already stick the date in your diaries: 23 – 27 March 2009.
Those of you thinking of applying for a scholarship to take part in IO 2009, should prepare their applications soon. See below for details.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is sponsoring a limited number of scholarships for film/TV professionals from the Southern Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia or Turkey). The scholarships encompass all seminar costs, accommodation during the workshop and a travel allowance of € 200. Application deadline is Friday, 16 January 2009. Details and forms are again on our website.
New Faces in the INSIGHT OUT Team
We are delighted to welcome Johanna Kokocinski on board, who will be looking after participants and all organisational matters. The team is strengthened further by Ursula Reber, who is responsible for the programme of the 2009 edition of INSIGHT OUT.
INSIGHT OUT Fellows
IO 2008 participant Diogo Pessoa Andrade (Portugal) is the co-founder of Border Crossing Media, a small company that provides a range of consultancy services and technical solutions for those who wish to develop, promote and distribute audiovisual content online.
In February 2009, they will release Border Crossing TV. This platform is neither a portal nor an aggregator, but a white-labelled technical solution that allows filmmakers to quickly and cost-effectively set up their own professional distribution channels
Via the INSIGHT OUT network, Diogo and the company's other founder Francois Roshdy (UK) were invited by the Erich Pommer Institute to hold a lecture at their recent "Online Content Distribution" workshop. The lecture was well received and the hand-out they compiled is a highly recommendable and exhaustive reference for anybody interested in learning more about developing, producing and distributing audiovisual content online.
All former INSIGHT OUT participants and trainers can download the paper from the INSIGHT OUT online discussion forum.
For anybody else interested in receiving or discussing this document further, feel free to contact Diogo and Francois directly.
